Marching Band

Ever gone to a football game?  Well, if you've ever been in high school, I would hope that you have.  You spend your time talking with friends and watching the game.  Ever paid attention to the background noise?  Like, the band?  During half time, do you get up to get a hot dog or watch them march across the field in amazing patterns?  When you do watch, does it cross your mind how hard they worked on it?

Like, marching band practice Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after school from 2:30 to 5:00 PM.  Not only do we have to memorize the steps and other "dance moves", but the music, too!  And the dancers/flag girls have to memorize those tricky movements!  It's very difficult and takes away from our home work time (adding more stress to the already stressful high-schooler's life), but it builds a bond that no one else has. THE MARCHING BAND MAFIA! (LOL)

We get annoyed, cranky, and thirsty.  We laugh and joke, and focus and act serious.  Marching band is an extreme mix of all those emotions.  Friendships do grow very strong during the hot, sweaty practices on the Driver's Ed course.   I haven't been at this school long, and, already, I have amazing friendships growing with band members.  (I'm glad 'cause I felt totally isolated and alone...)

So, next time, you go to a football game, or any other game for that matter, take a listen to the music being played, and watch the amazing half-time show.  Think about all the work they have put into this for the fun of it, and the pure joy of the applause afterward.
